Travel Nurses Fill Gap in California

According to a study conducted by a nursing professor at the University of Pennsylvania, legislation that mandated nurse-to-patient ratios in California has resulted in an increase in RNs on hospital staffs. There was a concern that this legislation would result in the hiring of more LPNs to meet the mandated levels and reduce the level of staff RNs due to the severe nursing shortage in California. The study found that has not been the case.

The reason?

Realizing the need for experienced and better educated RNs to accommodate patient needs, California hospitals turned to travel nurse jobs to fill the gap. The result was more RNs on staff, not less.
