Position Summary:

  • IR RN provides care to radiology patients who undergo interventional procedures.
  • Their responsibilities involve the initial examinations and assessments of patients as well as gaining procedural consent.
  • They assist in patient education regarding treatment or a procedure.
  • Other job duties include monitoring a patient’s vital signs during a procedure and performing daily rounds to monitor the progress of patients.

Reports To:

  • Unit supervisor of contracted facility
  • Cynet Health DON, Dir of Quality Management thru Account Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing patients for procedures: Includes checking and verifying vital signs, meds, NPO status, lab results, and medical history
  • Providing education to the patient and family members: Includes ensuring the patient and family members understand the procedure and plan of care before signing procedural consent and providing them with discharge planning/instructions
  • Inserting and removing intravenous lines
  • Administering medications including moderate sedation
  • Monitoring patient patterns and vital signs during the procedure
  • Overseeing the safety and comfort of patients before, during, and after procedures
  • Circulate/scrub procedures as needed
  • Providing post-procedure monitoring: Includes observing for signs and symptoms of complications, such as bleeding from the puncture site, pain, and/or changes in mental status or vital signs
  • The nurse also informs the technologist or radiologist of any unusual patient needs and performs specialized nursing duties, such as administering i.v. sedation or analgesia during special procedures and closely monitoring patients with cardiac/pulse oximeters.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must have critical care experience, ACLS, PACU or IR Experience
  • Must have active MD or compact license
