\u00a0<\/strong>This past weekend the American Nurses Foundation<\/a> honored the work of Jacqueline Collavo, MA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, of Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., as the Honor A Nurse 2015 Nurse of the Year. Whether it be traveling abroad or maintaining a practice at home, Collavo represents one of the millions of nurses that impact our lives for the better everyday.\u00a0ANF honors nurses throughout the country that provide excellent care as well as raise money for the Foundation.<\/p>\n

“Out of hundreds of nurses who have been honored through this program, Jackie Collavo\u2019s tribute truly stood out,” said American Nurses Foundation Chair Tim Porter-O\u2019Grady, DM, EdD, ScD (h), APRN, FAAN, FACCWS. “We are pleased to recognize her dedication to nursing and inspirational leadership.”<\/p>\n

Under her leadership, the hospital became the first in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania to achieve Magnet\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Recognition, a designation from the\u00a0American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)\u00a0that recognizes quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice.<\/p>\n

\u201cJacqueline has a heart of gold, and goes above and beyond in all aspects in her role as a nurse,” said Julia Warner, BSN, RN, CWON, Collavo\u2019s West Penn colleague and Nurse of the Year nominator. “She strives for excellence and inspires West Penn nurses to do the same as they advocate for patients, families and communities.”<\/p>\n

Every year the American Nurses Foundation honors a nurse through the Honor a Nurse program and Jacqueline Collavo is another example of stellar caring, stellar aid, and stellar nursing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Foundation created the Honor A Nurse program to recognize nurses\u2019 extraordinary contributions to health care. The program enables colleagues, friends, family and others to honor and tell the story of a nurse or a group of nurses who has made a positive difference in nursing locally or globally. The funds raised by the Honor A Nurse program are used to support nursing research, scholarships and programs to improve nurses\u2019 lives and the nursing profession,\u201d says Porter-O\u2019Grady.<\/p>\n

Nurses continue to strive to give the best possible scare. Our nurses continue to travel all over the world providing care to those in need. These modern-day heroes continue to amaze us and the ANF will continue to honor them as much as possible.<\/p>\n
