Although smart rooms have been implemented and tested in several different facilities throughout the country, this investment may just be the ticket they needed to get their idea from 2005 up from the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watson powered smart rooms use <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/jefferson-plans-cognitive-hospital-rooms-powered-ibm-watson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cognitive computing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, giving patients the ability to adjust the room environment or request information and actions. But it doesn\u2019t stop there, the rooms can even record an interactive conversation with patients that can easily be assessed by a physician or nurse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking it one step further, Cerner <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/dont-get-too-excited-over-smart-rooms-just-so-fast\/427298\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">created<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> their own smart rooms that not only include room controls but an integration of medical devices and seamless access to EHRs. As soon as authorized nurses and physicians walk into a patient\u2019s smart room, their medical records automatically pop-up on a screen. Equipped with identification technology, nurses and physicians will no longer be required to log in and out of systems. Paper signage outside a patient\u2019s room will be replaced with an electronic version that will have all the information a nurse could possibly need before walking in, such as dietary needs and what medical provider is currently in the room. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although they will definitely make a nurse\u2019s job so much more efficient, don\u2019t count on working with a smart room anytime soon. First, most hospitals lack the infrastructure and capital support to adopt smart rooms. And just like any other piece of technology, you must take into account the possibility of troubleshooting. In the midst of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allphysicianjobs.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/17\/breaking-physician-shortage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">physician shortage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, smart rooms may be just too big of an investment for most hospitals. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camera Monitoring<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smart rooms may not be in the imminent future, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg23230973-400-cameras-monitor-hospital-patients-vital-signs-from-afar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">camera monitoring<\/a> might be.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxehealth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oxehealth<\/a>\u00a0has a mission to replace\u00a0the medical devices you have come to know all too well with one camera. Installed with sophisticated software, camera monitors have the ability to effectively monitor patients&#8217; vitals without ever stepping into their room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camera monitoring\u00a0eliminates physical check-ins at all hours, lessening the anxiety and discomfort of being constantly disturbed and hooked up to strange medical devices. Such technology will naturally be a huge time-saver for nurses, but it may even allow patients to check out so much sooner than before.
