What Do I Need Financially?

Of course, there is far more to the nursing profession than a competitive salary. However, finances are something that most people have to think about on a regular basis. As you are considering destinations for your next travel nurse assignment, consider the average salary of nurses by state. It is also important to consider the cost of living in each location as well. For example, consider the 10 top earning states for nurses. Obviously, the average nurse in these states earns a very respectable annual salary. That said, many of these states are far more expensive than average to live in. While your net pay is certainly important, it is equally important to think about how far that net pay will go while you are on assignment.

Do I Want To Go Somewhere New or Familiar?

There are certainly pros and cons to taking brand new adventures every few months. First of all, it keeps things exciting! There are always new places to discover and new people to meet. However, there is also something to be said for the comfort of familiar faces and places. After all, everyone has that favorite coffee shop, restaurant, or bar that just can’t be beaten by anything else. If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of new cities, it is okay to consider travel nursing somewhere familiar. In fact, you can even travel nurse in your own city!

What Setting Do I Want to Work In?

Different people enjoy different types of lifestyles. For travel nurses, you have the opportunity to choose what kind of lifestyle you want to have. Do you prefer working in rural settings? Well, we have good news for you! Rural hospitals are always looking for nurses. Do you prefer working in an urban setting with multiple hospitals and a larger population around you? There are always jobs in cities like Washington D.C. as well. Since much of your time will be spent working, it is worth considering what type of workplace you prefer. If you’re not sure yet, it’s okay to try something different out. If you don’t like a particular environment, that can inform the decisions you make for your next travel nurse assignment.

What Setting Do I Want to Play In?

Finally, you should always consider how you want to spend your time off as well. We’ve all heard the saying, “work hard, play hard”. Nobody lives this quote more than travel nurses! It’s no secret that for many people, travel nursing is just as much about travel as it is about nursing. Experiencing new cultures and people when you’re not at work is one of the best parts of jobs that allow you to move around frequently. Ask yourself, do I want to work near the ocean? Maybe you should consider travel nurse jobs in Oregon or South Carolina. Want to live near the mountains so you can spend your time finding new trails? Check out available opportunities in Colorado or Utah. Whatever you’re looking for, think about how you are going to spend your free time.
