Drug testing or Breathalyzer testing if needed.Community recovery groups done once a week.Van driving resident to groups.10pm: Curfew checks on all women, making sure they were in at curfew. And providing a report to each case manager.Fairbanks Hospital provided help to those that lost there way and I was very proud to work for a hospital that provided assistance to in need.I learned about different drugs and the effect it has on different people, especially women.Co-worker are a huge part of teamworkThe hardest was that some was not ready to accept treatment. The most enjoyable part of the job was to see the joy of women succeeding and coming back to show other women that it can be done. |

July 20, 2013 Inspiring substance abuse, addiction, and recovery centerFairbanks offers adolescent and adult inpatient and outpatient recovery services. I worked in the adolescent intensive outpatient program, which consisted of equally time spent on group therapy session and education lesson plans. I worked under the supervision of a licensed social worker who was licensed in addictions and substance abuse counseling. Groups consisted of 10-30 males and females ages 12 to 20. Issues dealt with during group therapy were substance abuse, drug addiction, alcoholism, legal troubles, grief, family & peer conflict, anger, abandonment, destructive behaviors. Education lesson plans on the topics of the disease of addiction, adolescent brain development, mental illness, 12-step recovery program, relapse prevention, coping skills, stress management, conflict resolution, communication skills, healthy decision making. It was a very rewarding job helping the kids in recovery and resolve personal issues. The hardest part of the experience was watching a kid relapse. |
