Novant Hospital in Brunswick County has an environment of a small hometown pace

I worked in the ICU and PCU units of the hospital. A typical day consisted of getting report from night shift of patient stats. Routine vitals were done and put into the computer. Morning care for the patients were started. Baths, helping the patients set up in a chair, giving out morning meals. Unit Secretary duties were required from the CNA as well. Setting up patients charts, putting doctors orders in the computer, faxing doctors orders of labs that needed to be done, calling respiratory, x-ray etc....when needed, answering unit phone calls, answering call lights from patients room. monitoring the telemetry screens, consistent care of patients and routine vitals. Assisting the medical staff with patient care. I learned that team work is vital to giving excellence in patient care. Most of my co-workers were extremely pleasant to work with. The hardest part of the job was dealing with negative attitudes from a few of the employees. The negativism presented an unpleasant atmosphere in the work environment. The most enjoyable part of my job was to see patients who came into our unit with critical life threatening issues be restored to good or better health before leaving our unit.
