Rural Acute Care Hospital

Clinical responsibility included: ER triage (all age groups). ER patient care. Code Blue response team. Medical-Surgical and Critical Care Charge Nurse.Direct responsibility for Joint Commission Readiness and Coordination for organization. Initiated Core Measure Improvement project to begin implementation of evidenced-based practices for CHF, MI, and Pneumonia patients. Until this was implemented Core Measures had been unaddressed in the organization by physicians and nursing services.Provided direct supervision of 34 FTEs and accountable for 24 hour administrative coverage for the acute care departments, annual capital and operational budgets for departments reporting to Nursing Services.Other primary responsibilities included Joint Commission accreditation for the hospital and long term care facility. Served as the Risk Manager, GHA Patient Safety Corp Project Leader, and Disaster Preparation Management. The best part of the job was learning my leadership style and learning the concepts for healthcare management and disaster management processes. The worst part of the job was not having adequate material and human resources to grow the organization to become financially secure. We never knew if the hospital would close from day-to-day.
