Travel nurses can't leave an assignment because of terms of their contract forbidding it. Contracts are usually for 3 months (and very rarely for 6 weeks.) However, in instances where this may have to happen such as unforeseen emergencies, the nurse will be fired and (hopefully) the hospital is able to replace them with another RN.
