Daily routine was very regimented. Most staff were willing to assist new staff with any questions the had.

I worked at the Rochester Psychiatric Center from 1984 to 1993 in a clerical position. I returned to work there as an RN in 2008. Main responsibilities were charge nurse on evening shift, passing medications in the absence of an LPN, rounds and safety checks every 15 mins as scheduled, occasional restraint and seclusion. . Floating to different units was common which gave staff little chance to learn unit routine and to develop rapport with patients. Mandation of RNs was very common. This did change in 2009 or 2010 after contractual negotiations ruled against RN mandations.
