February 11, 2015 a very good training ground, low pay but strongly enriching thier employees with knowledge and skills thus enhancing our great potentialsMy ward caters 10 beds 5 female and 5 male charity patients, average hospital stay 3 to 5 days, 1 staff nurse per shift admissions comes on the first day of the week usually 3 in a row in preparation for the scheduled operations on the third day of the week for Ophthalmology indigents and receives post operative patients within the shift some are discharge within the day. ENT admission cases comes in the afternoon on the 2nd day of the week from OPD, diagnostic preparations are done 2-3 days prior to OR day which is on the 5th day of the week, usually post laryngectomy patients are back to ward directly with mechanical ventilator via tracheostomy.care of these patients are based on team approach, referrals are course through residents and if unavailable we directly inform the consultants. The dificulty comes in nursing staffing ratio of 1:10, multi tasking and could easily lead to burn out,but at the end of the day, when you hear praises from your patients and relatives that they are satisfied, that's the part when you feel joy that all my efforts are rewarded with a smile even though we are not paid as we expected to be. |
