Long shifts, not much work

Helping out patients can be very rewarding and was, but the amount of patients willing to seek help and ask questions is small. Waiting tirelessly for hours at a time can drag the day out. Generally the patients that are helped are genuinely satisfied and grateful for the help provided.

Energetic and Life Changing

My hours are 7A-730P. Most of the day is pretty busy. Since it's a post surgical floor, we have to get our patients up and moving quickly. Many, if not all patients, have multiple surgical drains, such as neobladders, ileo conduits, JP drains, chest drains, foleys, to name a few. We still do most orders by paper and that can be overwhelming at times. My co-workers are very supportive and caring. I never feel alone and there is always someone there to help. My management team is supportive and loves advanced education. We are a small unit, and it feels like a family.Hardest part of the job would be the physical labor and long hours. Most enjoyable is seeing my patients leave healthier than when they came in and working with amazing people.

Interesting place to work. Cutting edge technology in treatment of caccer

Started in maint.dept part time 30 hrs a week average while working full time at Phila Fire Dept. After a couple of years I was trained to do mechanical drawings for proposed renovations.I traveled to Harrisburg Pa. Dept of Health with plans for renovations for state approval.Because of my Fire Dept background I took over conducting Monthly Fire Drills and overseeing inspections of Fire Alarm And Sprinkler Systems in nine builbings.I inplemented a hand held bar code reader to computerize the monthly ,quarterly, semi annual and annual inspections of all life safety and medical gas components. When I retired from the Fire Dept. I was hired full time at Fox Chase .
