Job Opportunity – Pediatric Critical Care Nurse (PICU/CVICU) – Virginia

Schedule: 13-week assignment; 36 or 48 hours per week; night shift; 3 weekends per six-week schedule; 2 out of 3 winter holidays required
Highlights:

Combined pediatric cardiac and medical critical care unit with high census and high acuity patient population

Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity; specialized care including ECMO, VADs, and CRRT

Epic charting system; 24 hours of orientation provided

Opportunity to care for diverse patient diagnoses including congenital heart disease repairs, transplant patients, trauma, and post-operative cases
•
May float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
•
Up to 40 hours of approved time off available (restrictions apply during first 2 weeks)
Requirements:
•
Minimum 2 years of pediatric critical care experience required
•
Active Virginia nursing license (or pending; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
•
Current BLS and PALS certifications required
•
Epic charting experience required
•
Pediatric cardiac experience strongly preferred
•
Trauma Level I experience preferred
•
Flu vaccination required (no exemptions); COVID-19 vaccination not required
Clinical Skills:
Qualified candidates should be proficient in advanced pediatric critical care including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, arterial line management, central line care, administration of continuous sedation and vasopressors, interpretation of ABGs and dysrhythmias, chest tube management, and care of ventilated patients. Experience with congenital heart disease/repair, ECMO, VADs, CRRT, and specialized equipment is highly valued.
Patient Population:
This unit provides care for neonates through adolescents with complex cardiac and medical critical care needs. Cardiac cases include DORV, TOF, HLHS, Norwood procedures, TGA, and heart transplant patients. Medical cases include traumatic brain injury, respiratory illnesses, DKA, trauma, seizures, and post-operative cases including orthopedic, neurosurgical, liver and kidney transplants, and hematology/oncology patients.
Support Services:
Comprehensive interdisciplinary team including IV teams, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, rapid response teams, radiology, social services, interpretation services, and unit secretarial support.
