Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove artificial nails will result in termination of contract. RNs must pass a weekly exam during orientation. The exam is open book, covering skills learned, and candidates will receive all necessary resources to pass. A passing score of 90% is required. Blocked scheduling is generally not approved unless for weekends only. Duos requesting the same schedule or shared transportation will not be accepted. If placed on call and called back in, RNs must arrive within 30 minutes. The unit has 33 beds with an average daily census of 16 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:2-3 for adults. Common patient diagnoses include trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent procedures, pacemaker placements, strokes, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include any cardiac drip, insulin, and sedation medications. Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist as needed. Healthcare support is present three days per week. RNs will troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow. Shifts are from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. Self-scheduling is allowed for core staff, with travelers added in. Blocking scheduling cannot be guaranteed. RNs are responsible for monitoring and interpreting strips. Floating to other units is typically to PCU and occasionally to Med-Surg, maintaining the same patient ratios. RNs are expected to work a minimum of two holidays within the contract timeframe. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. There is one shift of unit-specific orientation. Request time off should be communicated upfront, with 7 or fewer days allowed during the contract. Additional time off will not be approved after submission. Clients may cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. Trauma level is 2. Care setting is acute. Division is nursing. Shift notes indicate a schedule of 12-hour days. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
