Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: High Acuity Unit - Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active Illinois license or confirmation of application Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience with PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care, tracheostomy care, caring for sedated and ventilated patients, titrating vasopressors, sedation and pain control drips. Description: The unit consists of 8 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, post-surgical patients, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac patients. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, and Dopamine. A charge nurse is present on each shift and does not take an assignment. A house supervisor is available 24/7. No nurse aides or patient care techs are assigned to the unit; nurses provide all primary care in the ICU. Clientists and intensivists are available in-house during the day. Tele-health MD services are available after hours. Respiratory therapies are available in-house 24/7. Registered Nurses are required to troubleshoot equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen systems. All intensive care unit beds are equipped with hard-wired telemetry monitors. Nurses are required to read their own telemetry strips. Shifts consist of 12-hour schedules from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Weekend requirements consist of working every other weekend and filling in as needed. Holiday requirements include rotation and filling in as needed. There is currently no call or standby requirement but this is subject to change. Registered Nurses may float to the medical-surgical unit as needed. Scrubs are the required dress code, and only approved t-shirts are allowed. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position. The trauma level is classified as acute care.
