The Certified Nurse Assistant must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must understand the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status is required. It is essential to interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs. The caregiver must provide the necessary care for both adult and geriatric patient groups. Resident's Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care. Care must be consistent with policies and procedures within a safe and comfortable environment. This includes hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence, catheter care, elimination, toileting needs, turning, positioning, and skin care. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The resident's environment and safety must be maintained as outlined in the plan of care. This includes answering call lights and alarms promptly, providing safety mats and low beds, and ensuring cleanliness of the unit. Behavior and fall prevention measures should be maintained, and appropriate use of equipment must be monitored. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The resident's nutritional needs will be met as outlined in the plan of care. This involves meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and honoring resident preferences. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The resident's rehabilitative needs must be met as outlined in the plan of care. This includes range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, and proper body alignment. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The resident's rights, refusals, and concerns should be reported to the Charge Nurse in a timely manner. Any changes in the resident's physical, emotional, and psychosocial status must be identified and reported promptly. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated.
