The Certified Nurse Assistant must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must understand the principles of growth and development across the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. The individual must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the required care for adult and geriatric patient groups. Resident's Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes assistance with hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, and skin care. Documentation is completed according to protocol. Resident's environment and safety are maintained as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes promptly answering call lights and alarms, providing safety mats and low beds, and ensuring cleanliness of the unit. Behavior and fall prevention strategies are implemented appropriately, and monitoring for malfunctioning equipment is conducted. Resident's nutritional needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and providing nourishments while honoring resident preferences and choices. Documentation is completed according to protocol. Resident's rehabilitative (restorative and maintenance) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes providing range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, ensuring proper body alignment, and using assistive devices as needed. Documentation is completed according to protocol. Resident's rights, refusals, and concerns are reported to the Charge Nurse in a timely manner. Changes in resident physical, emotional, and psychosocial status are identified and reported promptly. Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated, and required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
