Follows established standards and practices for assigned patients. Assesses and reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients. Applies the nursing process to cardiac monitoring and intervention. Handles sedation and pain management. Performs chest tube care and insertion. Administers medications and provides pre and post cardiac catheterization care. Manages TPN and PPN, KODA access, central lines, and COBRA. Administers specialized IV drips and titration. Implements IV therapy, IVADD, and waiving testing. Handles transfusion therapy and information management. Provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes. Consults with other specialists as required. Adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care. Performs head-to-toe assessments on all patients. Documents nursing histories, conditions, treatments, and responses. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs. Functions as a patient advocate. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development over the life span. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status and provide age-appropriate care. Interacts professionally with patients and families. Involves patients and families in care planning. Reviews, revises, updates, and resolves plans of care daily. Formulates teaching plans based on identified learning needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of learning, including family in the process. Supervises other healthcare staff involved in patient care. Allocates and monitors the work of others. Assists physicians with procedures as needed. Responds promptly to changes in workload to achieve optimal productivity. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees. Pursues professional growth and development through education and participation in workshops. Maintains operation of patient care equipment and ensures adequate inventory. Demonstrates flexibility and organization under stressful situations. Meets all departmental specific competencies. Performs housekeeping duties when necessary. Assists with the transportation of patients when required. Adheres to dress code and policies regarding infection control, safety, and personnel guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Serves as team leader and role model for staff members.
