Job Title: Interventional Radiology RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Interventional Radiology Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Variable Day shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Need ventilator and pressor management skills for procedure rooms. Epic experience required. Description: The department features three procedure rooms, with a fourth currently under construction. The hybrid OR room allows nurses to assist in CT, Ultrasound, and MRI for procedures and sedation. On average, there are 17 cases per day for Cath Labs, and 22-23 when including all other areas and procedures. Common diagnoses include vascular, neuro, electrophysiology, cardiology, interventional radiology, and cath lab cases. In the cath lab, services include diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as rotablator and shockwave therapies. Future services will include Impella procedures. Interventional radiology procedures consist of ports, G-tubes, drains, nephrostomies, and biliary drains. Embolizations and coiling are performed less frequently, while dialysis lines are common. In electrophysiology, procedures include ablations, device implantation, and temporary pacemaker placements. Anesthesia is present for all electrophysiology cases. Treatment nurses will circulate and monitor patients, with the possibility of floating to CT, Ultrasound, or MRI. Recovery nurses will care for patients in a designated post-procedure area. Bone marrow aspirations, bronchoscopy, and cardioversions take place in the recovery room, requiring recovery nurses to be trained in conscious sedation. Procedure nurses will work three 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM or may opt for four 10-hour shifts from 9 AM to 7:30 PM. Pre-procedure and recovery roles will typically involve four 10-hour shifts from noon to 10:30 PM or 2 PM to 12:30 AM. There will be a call requirement of one night a week and every third or fourth weekend. Staff members generally take one holiday a year, which is rotated among staff. Procedure nurses and technology staff have a response time of 30 minutes for on-call, while recovery nurses have 45 minutes. Floating to other areas is done on a voluntary basis. Nurses will have a buddy system for assistance during the initial weeks in the role. Charting is completed using the Epic system. Additional essential skills include monitoring and caring for patients during procedures and recovery phases.
