Flexibility to work additional shifts may be required. The average daily census is 97, with approximately 26 visits per day. The unit consists of 26 beds, serving adults and geriatric patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on each shift, including weekends. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend. The patient population includes a high geriatric demographic, with 40% of patients over 60 years old. There is a high admission rate of 40% of the patients. The facility serves as a Primary Stroke Center and administers TPA. The facility is recognized as a top heart hospital and is level 1 for STEMI care. Although not a trauma center, care is provided for Level 3 trauma patients. Emergency Severity Index (ESI) levels reveal medium acuity levels, with 23% of patients classified as level 1 and 2. ESI levels 4 and 5 are less common, with 6% of the total population in level 4 and rarely seeing level 5 patients. The unit offers care that includes moderate sedation, chest tube management, intubation, central line placement, and defibrillation. ACLS and BCLS certifications are required, along with specific training for trauma management. Two years of minimum experience is preferred, but first-time travelers will not be accepted. Navy blue or grey scrubs are required for this position. The unit has interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, radiology, and pharmacy services. Candidates must possess skills such as starting and maintaining IVs, managing ventilated patients, and interpreting arterial blood gases. Moderate sedation administration and psychiatric hold experience are also desirable. Applicants should have a proven ability to manage patients in acute situations, including drug overdoses and multisystem organ failure. All travelers within the service line may be required to float to other areas as needed.
