Core staff are placed on call first for call requirements. Agency staff may be required to float. Unit systems include Pyxis and EPIC. The unit accepts first-time travelers. Maximum requested time off is 7 days per contract. Full compliance is required to start on time; failure to comply may result in a delay of 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling. If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work it. If two major holidays fall during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work both. If three major holidays fall during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work two. Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year’s Eve/Day. Patients may present with ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes, seizure disorders, craniotomies, complex spinal surgeries, aneurysm coilings/clippings, and thrombectomies. Unit details include intracranial pressure monitoring, continuous sedation, continuous vasopressors or vasodilators, external ventricular drains, and ventilators. Cerebral oximetry monitoring is conducted on the unit. A CT scanner is located on the unit, and EEG technicians are stationed there. Interdisciplinary support is available, including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Special equipment utilized includes Licox, Arctic Sun, Hemosphere/Flotrac, and external ventricular drains. Candidates must complete all onboarding items and labs within 48 hours of contract signing. All compliance documents are due by the Tuesday prior to the start. Modules are non-billable and must be completed during orientation.
