Job Title: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred; Basic Cardiac Rhythm certification required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital Description: We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our MedSurg/Tele team. The facility has 637 licensed beds and is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation. The unit has 30 beds with a current census of around 30 patients. Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes. The patient population may include individuals with acute and chronic diseases, as well as those recovering from post-operative care and cardiac procedures. Common co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4-6. The unit is supported by multiple roles, including Certified Nursing Assistants and unit secretaries. Nurses will perform vital sign monitoring, glucose checks, and assist with patient care, including turning, bathing, and ambulating. Nursing duties include IV insertion, central line management, wound care, Foley insertion, and telemetry monitoring. Care coordination with an interdisciplinary team is essential. Discharge planning and patient education, particularly related to renal and fluid management, are key responsibilities. The facility provides support from respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7. Technology used includes an Electronic Medical Record system and various monitoring equipment. Weekend rotation involves working 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations may involve working one shift during major holidays. RTO requests will require manager approval. Teamwork is encouraged, with a focus on a busy but collaborative work environment.
