About the Position
As an Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN), you will play a crucial role in the surgical team, providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective surgical outcomes.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nPreoperative Preparation:\n\nAssess patients' medical histories and current conditions to develop individualized preoperative care plans.\nVerify surgical consent, review medications, and prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery.\nIntraoperative Nursing Care:\n\nAssist in preparing the operating room (OR) environment, ensuring sterile conditions and proper functioning of surgical equipment.\nCollaborate with surgical team members to position patients, monitor vital signs, and assist with anesthesia induction and maintenance.\nSurgical Assistance and Instrumentation:\n\nAnticipate surgeons' needs during procedures, passing instruments, sutures, and supplies as required.\nMaintain sterile technique and adhere to aseptic practices throughout the surgical process.\nPatient Advocacy and Safety:\n\nAdvocate for patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience, addressing concerns and ensuring adherence to surgical protocols.\nMonitor patients' responses to surgical interventions, anticipating potential complications and intervening promptly as needed.\nPostoperative Care and Monitoring:\n\nTransfer patients to post-anesthesia care units (PACUs) or recovery rooms, monitoring their vital signs and postoperative status.\nAssess surgical incisions, apply dressings, and manage drainage devices while ensuring patient comfort and pain management.\nDocumentation and Communication:\n\nMaintain accurate and thorough documentation of intraoperative events, patient responses, and medications administered.\nCommunicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing updates on surgical progress and postoperative outcomes.\nContinuing Education and Professional Development:\n\nStay current with advancements in surgical techniques, equipment, and nursing practices through continuing education and professional development activities.\nParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and surgical team debriefings to enhance patient care outcomes.
