Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, making independent clinical decisions throughout the scheduled shift while maintaining full accountability for all actions taken.
- Supervise and delegate appropriately to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring patient safety and quality of care during working hours.
- Evaluate emergencies, determine appropriate emergency measures, and react calmly while exercising sound nursing judgment in urgent situations.
- Observe, record, and report patient conditions, responses to medications and treatments, and significant incidents to the treating physician.
- Complete required documentation including admission, discharge, transfer records, nurses' notes, physician order transcription, and electronic medical record entries.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining nursing objectives, standards, policies, procedures, and patient care plans.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor's, Associate's, or Diploma in Nursing).
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state; direct hire candidates must have applied for an Alaska nursing license prior to start date.
- Active BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (American Heart Association); must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not already held, and maintained biannually thereafter.
- Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter.
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and perform physical duties including standing, walking, and occasional climbing, stooping, or crouching.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in acute care, emergency department, and/or long-term care settings.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (required for Emergency Department nurses; preferred at time of hire).
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to hospital and/or long-term care environments.
