About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiac Telemetry Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar role License: RN License required (NC or Compact license pending acceptable for submission) Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience with telemetry and cardiac patients - Ability to start IVs and manage cardiac drips - Experience with pre and post-procedure care for cardiac patients - Familiarity with managing multiple patients in a fast-paced environment - Willingness to float to different areas as needed Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and must not be worked out onsite. Call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could result in a cancel and DNR. This is a challenging and busy unit that requires similar experience with patient ratios and acuity. Travelers are accepted, including first-time travelers. Unit accepts 13-26 week contracts. 36 hours can be offered per week. The shift is 12-hour nights from 18:45 to 07:15. RTO is capped at a maximum of 7 days for auto approval. There is no block scheduling. Call requirement frequency depends on patient census. Every other weekend is required, along with two Mondays and two Fridays in a six-week period. The unit specializes in primary cardiac and stroke care. Nurses provide stable pre/post care for procedures like pacemaker implantation and cardiac catheterization. Patients may include those with unstable angina, low-risk chest pain evaluations, CHF, and dysrhythmias. Nurses are expected to run multiple drips such as cardizem, dopamine, and amiodarone. The unit experiences high patient turnover, typically 78 to 90 patients per week. A nurse may end up turning over their complete assignment and starting over. There is assistance from a team lead for admissions and discharges. The unit currently houses COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BIPAP during surges. Special equipment includes telemetry, pulse oximetry, and high flow O2 among others. Medication, documentation, and communication utilize specific systems. Self-scheduling is utilized with oversight from leadership to balance staffing needs. Scrubs must be navy blue, white, or a mixture, with jackets to match. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting. This is a high-level telemetry unit; PCU experience is preferred but not required.
