Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems. The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by utilizing knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment. The RN assists patients in transitioning through their healthcare encounters without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on the nursing practice guidelines and the patients' conditions. The RN is utilized in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments requiring 24/7 staffing, including those with on-call staffing. Essential functions include conducting accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards. The RN identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs, develops and evaluates nursing plans of care, and modifies plans as needed. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and supports evidence-based practice changes. The RN creates a compassionate, supportive, and safe environment for patients and families. The RN develops therapeutic relationships while managing both emotional and physical pain to promote comfort and healing. The RN recognizes and incorporates patients' unique differences into individualized plans of care. The RN preserves and protects patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights. The RN creates individualized plans reflecting patient and family values and goals. The RN facilitates learning for patients, families, and staff about their health and treatments. The RN collaborates with colleagues and the community to develop integrated plans of care. The RN utilizes problem-solving strategies and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in care delivery. The RN participates in shared governance and decision-making processes to improve nursing practice and the work environment.
