About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years PCU RN experience required License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; LVAD certification preferred Must-Have: Traveler must have 2 years of permanent staff (acute care) RN experience. Traveler must be separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff member. Traveler will need to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Description: Beds: 24-25 depending on the assigned unit. There are 3 PCU units: Cardiac Stepdown, Medical Stepdown, and Medical Stepdown overflow. Patient types include those requiring post-operative care and monitoring for various medical conditions. Conditions include respiratory failure, stroke, diabetes complications, sepsis, and post-surgical recovery. Patient ratios are 1:3-4. The traveler will be assigned a home unit during orientation. General PCU skills required include titrating cardiac drips and managing various patient care equipment. Cardiac skills include managing and pulling venous sheaths and temporary pacemakers. Support staff includes CNAs and resource nurses available during day shifts. Charting system is Meditech Expanse; IV pumps used are Alaris; medication dispensing system is Pyxis. Weekend rotation includes every other weekend, with a mandatory schedule of working 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Time off requests are limited to one weekend and up to 7 days; any full week of time off requires an extension of the contract. Travelers will work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Scrub color is pewter; T-shirts must be gray, white, or black with an appropriate monogram. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
