Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years PCU RN experience; first-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff (acute care) RN experience License: California RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in a medical PCU unit. The unit has 24-25 beds, with a focus on cardiac and medical stepdown patients. Patient types include those recovering from cardiac surgeries and other serious medical conditions. The nurse will be assigned to a home unit during orientation. Responsibilities include managing cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors. The nurse must have skills in central line management, wound care, and other general PCU skills. The unit offers support staff, including CNAs and charge nurses. Charting is done using an electronic medical record system. Weekend rotation requires working every other weekend, with a 4 days one week and 3 days the next week schedule. Holiday expectations include working 2 out of 3 major holidays. Cultural diversity is a key aspect of the unit environment.
