About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Oncology background Description: General comments about the unit include a total of 21 beds, with a current census ranging from 8 to 12 patients. Staffing consists of 1 charge nurse and 3 to 4 registered nurses during the day shift, along with 1 patient care technician. Night shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse and 3 to 4 registered nurses, also with 1 patient care technician. Patient ratios are estimated to be 1:3 or 1:4, with flexibility to 5. Equipment utilized on the unit includes Baxter pumps and an EMR system called Meditech. The most commonly recruited skill set is oncology experience. Candidates without oncology experience will not be considered. Preferred qualifications include hemonc experience and chemotherapy certification. Typical procedures performed on this unit include replacing blood and electrolytes. The ideal candidate will be compassionate. Unit guidelines dictate that neutropenic precautions are to be followed. Strict intake and output monitoring is required. Patients must receive CHG baths and linen changes every 24 hours. Dressing changes should occur every 7 days, and lines and caps should be changed every 96 hours. Children under the age of 16 are not permitted on the unit. Weekend shifts are rotating, and there is no on-call requirement.
