About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00-19:00 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, ENPC or PALS Must-Have: Compassion, urgency, and teamwork are extremely important for this role. Experience in Level II or Level III trauma. Description: The Emergency Department consists of 16 beds with 8 hall chairs. There are typically 6-7 staff members per shift. Day shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, and 4-5 nurses (with one mid-shift), as well as 1 unit secretary and 1-2 techs. Night shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, and 4-5 nurses (with one mid-shift), a unit secretary from 7 PM to midnight, and 1 tech. Patient ratios are 1:4, focusing primarily on low acuity patients with ESI levels 4 and 5, with the possibility of taking up to 6 patients. The department is equipped with cardiac monitors, Baxter IV pumps, HPs, Tonopen, and additional equipment. Electronic medical records are managed through Meditech, and vital signs are integrated into the charting system. Typical responsibilities include assessments, documentation, medication administration, wound care, splinting, IV placement, urine collection, lab draws, and care for patients categorized from ESI 5 through 1. The preferred scrub color is royal blue. Staff are encouraged to incorporate team spirit attire on designated days, such as wearing team jerseys. Mandatory shift huddles occur at 7 AM and 7 PM, requiring attendance from all staff unless they are providing critical care. EMTALA training is a requirement for staff. The department is recognized for improving patient satisfaction and employee engagement, focusing on timely care for stroke, STEMI, sepsis, and trauma patients. The facility is transitioning from a Level IV to a Level II trauma designation, offering new equipment and technology, and a schedule that provides flexibility.
