About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Registered Nurse Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC or TCAR, NIHSS Must-Have: - ACLS - BLS - TNCC or TCAR - NIHSS - EKG course completion (training available) Description: Start date within the next 3-5 weeks is preferred. The nurse will be required to float to Medical/Surgical and Telemetry if the Intensive Care Unit has a low census. Patient ratios will be 5-6:1 when floating. Previous charge experience is preferred. Experience with Cerner charting system is required. Community hospital experience is preferred. Travel experience is required. Skills required include arterial line management, blood product administration, care of ventilated patients, central line management, and more. Understanding of neuromuscular blockade and IV sedation is essential. Experience with patients in chronic or acute renal failure and management of dysrhythmias is necessary. The nurse will assist with high acuity cases including post-cardiac surgery and post-neurosurgery management. Knowledge of emergency medications, EKG interpretation, and infection prevention protocols is required. The nurse will manage ventilator settings, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and interpret arterial blood gases. Patient demographics include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Daily census in the unit is approximately 15, with a total of 20 beds. Interdisciplinary support teams include respiratory services, physical therapy, and rapid response teams. Flexibility in scheduling is important, including weekend coverage.
