Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Days or Nights - determined based on facility needs Hours per Shift: 36 guaranteed Experience: Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: Valid driver's license Must-Have: - Nursing care - Medication administration - Patient assessment - Supervisory techniques - Emergency procedures Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders and administering medications. The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients. Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure. Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the area of treatment. The RN attends sick calls with the physician to see inmates/residents. They prepare a list of inmates/residents to be examined and prepare the examining room and equipment. The RN operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies. They contact the Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders. The RN examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries. They refer inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities as required. Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and the Licensed Independent Provider is notified for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. They monitor inmate/resident hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. The RN provides guidance and supervises nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. A good working relationship is maintained with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies. Established corporate and facility policies and procedures are utilized in decision-making. The RN regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use. They maintain the security and confidentiality of all medical records. The RN assists the Health Service Administrator in reviewing medical files to ensure all services are documented. They closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses. Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary as required. The RN complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances. Observation and recording of inmate/resident behavior are conducted. The medical unit is inspected for items that could be used as contraband by inmates/residents. Health counseling and health education are provided on an individual or group basis as required. The RN assists the Health Service Administrator in preparing and maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs. They read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and documents. The RN reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary. Facilitation of accreditation of the medical program is provided by delivering efficient medical services. Safety and accident reports are prepared as required by policies and procedures. Appropriate actions are taken in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
