About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in acute care License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: Titratable gtts experience (Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed). Experience with chest tube management, tracheostomies, and peritoneal dialysis preferred. Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Description: The unit has 12 beds dedicated to stroke care. Patients include those with CVA/TIA needing TPA administration, spinal surgical procedures, and stepdown unit overflow cases. Patient types also include AFIB/RVR, DKA, hypertension, COPD, acute respiratory failure, and those post-heart catheterization. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, and the CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:9. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who may hold a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in-house. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM. Respiratory therapy is also available in-house. Hospitalists are present for support. Telemetry monitoring includes cardiac monitors in each patient room connected to a central monitoring system. Nurses are responsible for primary monitoring and printing EKG strips for patients each shift. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps utilized are Alaris, and medication dispensing is managed through Pyxis. Floating to stepdown and med-surg units may be required with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6. Weekend rotation will be every other weekend. Scheduling will involve a mandatory rotation that includes working night shifts. Requests for time off are limited to 7 days, and only one weekend can be requested per 13-week contract. Travelers are expected to work 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub color required on the unit is pewter, with t-shirt options in gray, white, or black. Jackets should be gray or black, and badges must be worn in full view at all times. The culture on the unit is traveler-friendly.
