About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year MedSurg/Tele experience required License: Active Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, NIHSS; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Experience with geriatric patients, cardiac patients, neuro cases, and general medical conditions Description: This position is for MedSurg on the 2nd floor. The facility is a Level IV Trauma Center with 100 beds. The average patient census is 20-22 patients per day. The nursing unit has 28 beds. RN patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:6-7 at night, which can go up to 1:8 but is not common. CNA ratios are 1:5-6 during the day and 1:7-8 at night. Required skills for RNs include NG tube placement and management, foley placement and management, chest tube management, wound care, central line, ports, midline blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. RNs will also manage drips, including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin within set parameters. CNAs assist with ambulation, patient ADLs, vitals, I/O, and blood sugar checks, and can remove peripheral IVs. Support within the department includes a Charge RN with a reduced patient assignment, a Health Unit Coordinator until 2300, and phlebotomy services. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, along with hospitalist services and therapy services during the day. Centralized telemetry monitoring is available, staffed by telemetry technicians and centralized monitoring at the nurse’s station. The EMR system used is EPIC. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are used in compliance with safety protocols. Floating may occur to other MedSurg units or areas in the facility where MedSurg patients are located. Weekend rotation involves working every other weekend. Holiday expectations require working 50% of designated holidays. Approval of requests for time off must go through the manager. The manager creates the schedule in 6-week increments, which is released three weeks prior to the schedule start date. The unit is currently focused on improving culture and engagement, with team members working collaboratively and supporting one another. Scrub color is any solid color that is professional without graphics, logos, or designs.
