About the Position
Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days EOW Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience and ability to read strips Description: The position is for a Med/Tele/PCU RN. This specialty focuses on stepdown care. The unit has 32 beds with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights. PCU level care overflow on the unit maintains a ratio of 1:3. Common patient diagnoses include adults and geriatrics with cardiac issues, ETOH, Covid, and general surgical history related to heart conditions. Candidates should be familiar with patients experiencing pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Experience in telemetry and cardiac nursing is preferred. PCU experience is necessary, along with proficiency in using the Epic charting system. First-time travelers are welcome to apply. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix, with occasional low dose Dopamine. There is a charge nurse on each shift who may take a light load of 2-3 patients. Patient care techs are available on the unit with a goal of 1:10 ratios. Registered Nurses will troubleshoot equipment related to respiratory therapy, including BiPap and trachs. They will be required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts run from 7 AM to 7 PM, with consideration for scheduling based on unit needs. The position requires weekend commitment every other weekend and holiday availability every other holiday. Floating to different areas as needed is also part of the role. Scrubs of any color are acceptable. The role emphasizes tele and cardiac nursing expertise. A radius rule of 50 miles applies to candidates. Requests for time off must be submitted upfront. Additional time off requests will not be approved after submission. The cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract, or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks.
