The unit handles high-impact, fast-paced nursing and challenging patient-care issues. Nurses will practice at the top of their scope and abilities. A variety of patient conditions and care modalities are encountered. Responsibilities include complex wound care, management of drains and devices, and care for traumatic injuries. Nurses will manage chest-wall injuries that require chest tubes and respiratory support. Care for traumatic brain injuries along with complex spinal cord injuries is also part of the role. Collaboration with care management, surgical and medical services, rehabilitation services, and perioperative services is essential. The unit is recognized for its Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery services, providing care to patients undergoing bariatric weight-loss surgeries. The position involves both step-down and floor patients, allowing for experience in two levels of care. Patient-to-nurse ratios are maintained at 1:6 for floor patients and 1:3 for step-down patients. Cancellation policy allows for two shifts per contract. Charting is done through EPIC.
