About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: RN License required Certifications: BLS Certification required Must-Have: Must have 1 year of experience. Will accept first-time travelers. Description: Unit has 48 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, urinary tract infections, altered mental status, gastrointestinal bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness. RNs will be expected to titrate drips, with some exceptions. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include heparin, bumex, and lasix. Two charge nurses are scheduled on day shift and will take a patient assignment. At night when only one charge nurse is scheduled, they do not take an assignment. Patient care technicians are present with an average ratio of 1:10-12, but this can be higher. Job duties include monitoring vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, electrocardiograms, applying heart monitors, bathing, feeding, toileting, turning, and positioning. Respiratory therapy will administer breathing treatments, inhalers, arterial blood gases, and manage respiratory equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP. Registered nurses are primarily responsible for monitoring, while respiratory therapists perform checks. Monitor technicians read and supervise telemetry, providing alerts if issues arise. Nurses are not expected to read and interpret telemetry strips. Shift scheduling does not allow self-scheduling or block scheduling. Schedules are created by management, considering requested time off. Travel staff are expected to be flexible in order to fill schedule gaps. Floating to other units may be required for lower acuity patients. Scrub color for RNs is navy blue, and for patient care technicians is ceil blue. Holiday rotations may be required, with scheduling done through rotation. Cancellation policy allows for a limited number of shift cancellations per assignment length. The charting system utilized is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. No standby or call requirement exists for this role. Every other weekend is required.
