About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 Years Minimum Neuro ICU Experience Required License: Active Nursing License Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Strong Neuro Experience, Minimum of 2 Years in Neuro ICU Traveler Experience: Not Accepting First-Time Travelers Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly turn into a cancellation and Do Not Return. Unit accepts applicants with a minimum of 2 years Neuro ICU experience. Traveler or local candidates are welcomed, but local candidates have a different rate. Required skills include managing vents, IV starts, and caring for patients in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. Applicants must be able to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, administer blood products, and provide continuous IV sedation. Experience in CVA/Acute Stroke management and external ventricular drain (EVD) management is needed. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in ICP monitoring and post-neurosurgery care. Knowledge regarding the care of ventilated patients is essential. Applicants should adhere to isolation precautions and use of PPE. Strong neuro critical care background is mandatory. The patient population primarily consists of stroke patients. The unit is a comprehensive stroke center and involves patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, SDH, craniotomies, carotid stenting, and aneurysm management. The average daily census is 11-12 with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1, which may flex to 3:1 during high census. The unit operates with specific special equipment such as EVDs, lumbar drains, and ICP monitoring devices. Candidates must be willing to float within or near the facility as needed. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend.
