About the Position

Title: RN – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Ohio (Facility with 58 Licensed Beds)
Duration: 13 Weeks (or per contract)
Schedule: 12-Hour Night Shift (36 Hours/Week) | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Every Other Weekend

  • 58 Licensed Beds
  • No Trauma Designation
  • Radius Rule: Traveler's permanent residence must be more than 50 miles from the facility

Unit Information

  • 33-Bed PCU/MedSurg Unit
  • Minimum Experience Required: 18 Months PCU Experience
  • First-Time Travelers Accepted

Unit Overview

This is a combined Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical unit caring for a diverse patient population requiring intermediate-level care.

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Stroke Rule-Out
  • CVA
  • Cellulitis
  • Failure to Thrive (FTT)
  • Altered Mental Status (AMS)
  • Chest Pain Rule-Out
  • Atrial Fibrillation (Afib)
  • COPD
  • General Medical-Surgical Patients

Patient Ratios

Nursing Ratios

  • RN: 1:5 – 1:6
  • LPN: Primary patient assignments (same ratio as RN)
  • CNA: 1:8 – 1:12

Required Certifications

  • Active RN License
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Floating Requirements

Required Floating

Travelers must be willing to float within scope of practice.

  • May float throughout the facility as needed
  • May float to AH Cleveland regularly
    • Approximately 15–20 minutes away
    • Typically notified in advance

Regional Floating

  • Required to float throughout Region 3 based on staffing needs
  • Candidates should decline the position if not agreeable to regional floating requirements

Mid-Shift Floating

  • Traveler remains on the clock
  • Paid travel time between facilities

Orientation

New Employee Orientation (NEO)

Unit Orientation

  • 2 Department-Specific Orientation Days

Scheduling Information

Shift

  • 12-Hour Night Shift
  • 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 36 Hours Per Week

Weekend Requirement

  • Every Other Weekend (EOW)

Schedule Cycle

  • Schedule posted in 6-week increments

Call & Low Census Information

  • No traditional on-call requirement
  • Possibility of Low Census Call

Call Back Expectations

  • Night Shift: Can be called back until 3:00 AM
  • Day Shift: Can be called back until 3:00 PM

Holiday Requirements

  • Travelers are required to work 75% of holidays during the contract

Time-Off Policy

  • Up to 6 days off may be approved
  • Holidays cannot be included in approved time off
  • If contracted hours are not met, time may need to be added to the end of the assignment
