About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse First Assistant Profession: RNFA Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 10-hour Days Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) via CCI Certificate Must-Have: ACLS, BLS Description: Unit consists of 7 operating suites. The average number of cases performed per day is 18-20. ACLS and BLS certifications are required. CST certification is preferred for Technicians. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1 or 2:1. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Charge nurses and operating room technicians are present. There are no weekend requirements for nurses or CSTs. Nurses are expected to be on call, with some nights and weekends; 1 weeknight call per week and 2, 12-hour weekend call shifts monthly. CSTs also have a call requirement with similar expectations. Call response time is 30 minutes. Holiday work is required. Scrub colors will be provided. Telemonitoring is managed using Phillips equipment. Ventilators are available 24/7. Surgeons are on call 24/7. An RT and pharmacy are available 24/7. Shifts may vary between 8-hour or 10-hour shifts. Floating is limited to pre and post-operative tasks only. Specific orientation for the floor will be provided. Common types of surgical cases include laparoscopic, bariatric, orthopedic, neurological, urological, gynecological, and ENT procedures. Scrubbing is not required for nurses, but it is preferred. The hospital has a cancellation policy allowing for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment. Charting is done using Cerner. A BSN is not required for this position. This position requires an active nursing license. The department is classified as a trauma care setting. Care provided is in an acute setting.
