About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Float Pool Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: BSN Required; License to Submit: Yes Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to titrate cardiac drips Description: Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing the contract. There are two attempts available for this exam within 48 hours of the offer. If the traveler fails the exam, they will be sent home and made a DNU for six months. A pass/fail simulation lab is conducted on the first day of orientation. If the traveler fails the simulation, they will be sent home and made a DNU for six months. Floating between all telemetry and MedSurg units is required. Depending on skill level, nurses will float to different units and care settings. Notification of campus and unit will be given 1.5 hours prior to shift start. Floating to different units mid-shift can occur. Rarely will a nurse float to another campus within a single shift; however, it is possible. Travel between campuses may take approximately 15 minutes, depending on traffic. Nurses must clock out when leaving one campus and clock in when arriving at another. Floor-specific orientation will be provided. Common diagnoses and types of patients include post-cardiac catheterization, post-vascular procedures, and general telemetry patients. The RN must be able to interpret EKGs. Ventilator management is not included. Hospitalists are present during the day and on call at night. RT and Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, spanning the hours of 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Floating to similar or lower acuity settings may take place. Common diagnoses in the MedSurg specialty include surgical, orthopedic, and oncology patients. Telemetry monitors will be used for patient monitoring. Specific requirements include four weekend shifts per four-week period, with one major and one minor holiday.
