About the Position

Job Title: Interventional Radiology RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Interventional Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: At least one year of experience in critical care, emergency, cath lab, or interventional radiology preferred. Three years of experience desired. License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS certifications required Must-Have: Certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred (e.g., RCIS, NIH Stroke Scale) Description: The Interventional Radiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive interventional procedures. Procedures may include angiography, embolization, cardiac catheterization, and other minimally invasive interventions. This role collaborates with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The RN is responsible for the quality of care for interventional/surgical patients through the utilization of the nursing process. He/she acts as the patient advocate and supervises any personnel assigned. The RN may be on call for the Interventional Unit as needed. Essential job functions include performing a variety of duties with efficiency and composure. In the nursing/circulator role, the RN administers medications as ordered, including anticoagulants and emergency drugs. Maintaining sterile technique and assisting with procedures as needed is crucial. The RN acts as a patient advocate and anticipates the needs of the interventionalist. Recognizing and responding rapidly to complications such as arrhythmia and cardiac arrest is essential. Collaboration with radiologic technologists and physicians to manage contrast allergies is required. The RN may participate in pre-procedure discussions regarding appropriate contrast agents. When assigned moderate sedation, the RN continuously assesses the patient and verifies ASA classification. He/she provides appropriate nursing interventions for complications. In the scrub role, the RN functions as a scrub technologist using sterile techniques to assist physicians. Preparedness includes organizing sterile instruments, guidewires, and procedural trays. Familiarity with vascular anatomy and device sizing is important. The RN actively communicates with the monitoring team during procedures to ensure documentation accuracy. As a primary monitor technologist, the RN records hemodynamic data and manages monitoring systems. The RN verifies allergies and performs patient identification in accordance with institutional policy. Assistance with managing supplies and room turnover efficiency is required. Tasks include restocking rooms and ensuring proper storage of medical devices. Ability to provide age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial care is vital. Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking is preferred, along with the ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
