Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU/Peds Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Days/Nights - Every Other Weekend Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Active RN License Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: - Peds and Adult Experience - Chest Tubes Management - Arrhythmia Identification - Cardioversions Experience - Post Heart Catheterization Care - Defibrillator Use - Pain Management Skills Description: This unit serves a combination of pediatric and adult patients. The patient population is primarily adults but may include pediatric cases. There are 27 beds on this unit, with the potential for two rooms to be doubled but generally maintained as private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-5. Nurses are expected to titrate drips up and down as necessary. Common titratable and set rate drips include Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Lasix, Electrolytes, Dobutamine, and Dopamine. Charge nurses will take an assignment while managing the unit. There are nurse aides available to assist on this unit, shared with another department. Respiratory technicians will manage CPAP and BiPAP equipment usage. Teleradiology technicians are present, but RNs are required to interpret their own ECG strips. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Self-scheduling is not available; however, scheduling flexibility is encouraged. Weekend shifts are typically required every third weekend but may vary based on departmental needs. Holidays are assigned every third holiday, with expectations to work during winter holidays. There is no call or standby requirement unless requested for a shift off or in the event of a cancellation. Floating may be required occasionally to other units with a full patient assignment. Scrub color is to be solid without designs or prints, with a policy for natural hair colors. Unit-specific orientation includes two days of nursing department orientation and one shift on the floor.
