About the Position

Job Title: RN Surgical Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical/Transplant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 1 year of experience required. License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN license. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association is required. Must-Have: - Acute care surgical floor experience. - Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. - Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. - Some computer skills. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in examining patients and performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred experience includes stepdown/PCU and transplant experience. The unit cares for post-surgical transplant patients and pre-transplant patients being evaluated during their inpatient stay. Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. This position is not in a PACU. Nurses on this floor will work in med/surg or stepdown dependent on availability. Preceptor and charge experience is preferred.
