Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Orthopedics. The unit has 43 private rooms with a patient-nurse ratio of 1:4-5 on day shifts and 1:5-6 on night shifts. The department treats a wide variety of medical-surgical cases, including postoperative orthopedic cases and trauma cases with fractures. There is a primary charge nurse on each shift, supported by a house supervisor available 24/7. Patient care technicians are present on the unit with a ratio of 1:7-8. The nursing staff is equipped with various respiratory therapy equipment but will primarily troubleshoot. Telemetry is managed with house-wide telemetry pack monitors, and nurses are expected to read their own strips. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts, requiring every other weekend. Traveling nurses may float to other similar medical-surgical floors as needed. The dress code allows for any color of scrubs, and professional appearance is required. Tattoos and piercings must be covered while on duty. Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
