About the Position
Job Title: RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Description: This is a critical care unit with a maximum census of 11 patients. The unit has 12 beds, one of which is reserved for inpatient dialysis. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:2-3, occasionally including house IMU patients. RNs are required to titrate drips and commonly manage ICU medications including paralytics, sedatives, and various cardiac drugs. A charge nurse is on duty 24/7 and does take patient assignments. An administrative supervisor is available on-site 24/7. There are no nurse aids or patient care techs in this unit, making it a primary care unit. Hospitalists are in-house 22 hours a day, with a gap between 5 AM and 7 AM when they are on-call. Emergency response personnel are available 24/7. Intensivists are present in the ICU for a few hours a day but can be reached by phone 24/7. Respiratory therapists manage ventilation equipment and other respiratory devices. Monitor technicians are present in the hospital to oversee ICU and telemetry patients. Cardiac rhythm interpretation is preferred for this role. Nurses work 12-hour shifts, starting at 6:30 AM or 6:30 PM. Block scheduling is accommodated when requested. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holiday requirements include every other holiday. No call or standby requirement is present. ICU travel nurses may float to med-surg if needed. Scrub color is navy blue, which is not provided. Unit-specific orientation consists of online modules and on-floor training.
