About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Neonatal ICU Profession: RN Specialty: Neonatal ICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of strong Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience. License: RN Certifications: BLS, NRP Must-Have: Must be comfortable in a high acuity, fast-paced environment. Description: Registered Nurse in the Neonatal ICU. The facility has 247 licensed beds. It is a Level 1 pediatric trauma center and a teaching hospital. The unit has 53 beds, plus overflow, with an average patient census of 58. Common patient diagnoses include: Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome, and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia. Congenital heart defects, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn, and other cardiac conditions. Neuro issues such as seizures, intraventricular hemorrhage, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. GI, GU, musculoskeletal, and endocrine conditions like Necrotizing Enterocolitis and acute/chronic renal failure. Patient ratios vary based on acuity and can be 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3. Required skills include: Experience with EPIC. Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration and invasive lines. Aseptic and sterile techniques. Ventilator and trach management. Management of feeding tubes and chest tubes. Experience with bedside procedures in collaboration with providers. Support within the department includes: Unit Secretary available every shift. Charge nurse and Resource Nurse present 24/7. Access to RT, Intensivist, and in-house APP and residents. Unit-based educators and clinical supervisors for guidance. Technology and equipment used: Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC. IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps. Breast milk scanning systems. Floating may occur to similar units as needed, depending on the skills and experience of the traveler. Weekend rotation is required, including two Fridays and two Mondays, plus every other weekend in a six-week schedule. Holiday expectations include working the Eve and/or Day after holidays, as well as every other holiday while contracted. Travelers are preferred not to have significant amounts of request time off (RTO). Dress code includes navy scrubs, with a preference for long sleeve shirts to be navy or white. No tight scrubs or organizational branded attire permitted. The facility follows strict hygiene guidelines, with a policy of "bare below elbow" in nurseries. Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, accountability, respect, and compassionate hard work.
