About the Position

Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: L&D Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00-19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of L&D experience, preferably with 1 or more travel contracts completed. License: Current RN license Certifications: AWHONN intermediate fetal heart monitoring, NRP, ACLS, BLS Must-Have: 2+ years of L&D experience Advanced skills in NRP, ACLS, BLS, AWHONN intermediate fetal monitoring Description: The unit consists of 9 labor rooms, 6 triage rooms, 3 AP rooms, and 3 ORs. Patient ratios are 1:1-2 for laboring, 1:2-3 for AP, and 1:1 for c/s and PACU. An OB tech is always in staffing to assist with scrubbing c/s and vaginal deliveries. A dedicated charge nurse assists with triage and transport (baby nurse). There is 1 unit secretary from 07:00 to 23:00. The documentation system is Meditech and Centricity. Scheduling requirements include 3 shifts per week. If working during winter holidays, must work 1-2 days or evenings. Floating policy allows for floating to Mother Baby but not frequently. Certifications required include AWHONN intermediate fetal heart monitoring, NRP, ACLS, and BLS. Dress code mandates solid black, grey, or pink scrubs only, with no patterns. The facility has a monthly birth volume of 200+ deliveries. There is significant growth with the addition of new practices and healthcare providers. Collaboration exists with a laborist program to ensure 24-hour coverage. Dedicated anesthesia providers are available 24 hours a day. The facility offers nitrous oxide therapy for pain management along with epidural analgesia. Extensive renovations of labor and delivery and mother-baby units have been completed. This includes six new, state-of-the-art mother-baby rooms. The team uses advanced tools such as the Jada, fetal pillow, and Cook's catheters. Most nursing staff have completed Spinning Babies or Supporting Vaginal Birth classes to enhance patient care and outcomes.
