About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in specialty required License: Compact or state license required Certifications: BLS ACLS (preferred) NIHSS (preferred) Must-Have: Neuro surgery experience Experience in managing multi-trauma patients Experience with surgical drains and chest tubes Description: Please ensure the traveler is aware of the following: Upon accepting an assignment, the unit manager may assign the traveler to an emergency team where there will be an expectation to stay at the facility until the event passes or to be part of the relief team. Specific details pertaining to pay will be relayed during each emergency event, as impacts vary. By signing the travel contract for this position, the traveler agrees to report as assigned by the unit manager if an emergency event occurs. This role is not suitable for individuals who are uncomfortable with these expectations. Unit Info: Patient diagnoses include multi-trauma, seizures, gunshot wounds, falls, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, sepsis, and orthopedics-related trauma that is not elective. Major trauma unit experience is required. Special procedures include craniotomies, spinal fusions, open reduction internal fixations, muscle flaps, skin grafts, amputations, and spinal stimulators. Travelers may be required to float to other inpatient units. Scheduling requests, such as block scheduling, cannot be guaranteed. Special Equipment: The unit utilizes traction, external fixators, trapezes, PCA pumps, JP drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, orthopedic braces, hemo vacs, central lines, tracheostomies, PEG tubes, and NG tubes. Required Skills: Blood product administration PICC line management Starting IVs Pre and post-neurosurgery care Traumatic brain injury management Surgical drain care Chest tube management Isolation precautions Patient Ratios: Day and night patient ratios are 6:1. Weekend coverage is also required. Patient Care Details: The unit provides care for adults and geriatric patients with a daily census of 24. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretaries.
