About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS PALS preferred Must-Have: Experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies Experience with trauma and neuro-strokes Ability to titrate vasopressors and sedation Description: Telemetry, labor and delivery, emergency and critical care RNs will take a proctored Dysrhythmia Test on site, day one. This is a PASS/FAIL test. Candidates must have experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies. Holiday requests will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed. The unit is an ICU/Trauma ICU with 30 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1 to 1-2. 90% of the time will be a 1 to 2 ratio. Charge nurse is available 24/7 and does not take patient assignments. House supervisor is also present 24/7. A unit tech is available for all 30 beds, primarily providing secretarial work. Intensivist and respiratory therapy are available in the ICU 24/7. RNs must interpret their own monitoring strips. Shifts are 12 hours, starting between 6:45 and 7:15. Schedules are made out approximately 6 weeks in advance. Travelers are the first to float if needed. Self-scheduling is not finalized until reviewed by management. Every other weekend is required. Floating may occur to various other units. The dress code for the unit is navy. Candidates must be prepared to work very hard on this unit. Openness to asking questions and seeking help is essential. The hospital has a robust interventional radiology program and is traveler-friendly. Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during the assignment. Charting system used is Cerner. NIHSS certification is preferred. COVID vaccination is required.
